Perhaps best known as the creator of the HBO series Girls (dubbed “the millennial generation’s rebuttal to ‘Sex and the City,’ by The New York Times), Lena Dunham has brought dry wit, sincere empathy, and a feminist perspective to her work across genres, including films like Tiny Furniture, journalism, personal essay collections and her most recent television series, Too Much. The voice of a generation (“or at least a voice, of a generation” as Hannah Horvath says with a self-awareness common among Dunham’s genuine characters), Dunham has achieved a dizzying amount over the past decade. Meanwhile, most often out of the public’s view, she has battled major personal challenges including countless hours in doctor’s waiting rooms searching for diagnoses, treatments, and relief from illness. In her new memoir Famesick, Dunham tracks her rise to fame and considers how the spotlight casts long shadows, challenging personal relationships as well as her physical and mental health.
Author and journalist Michael Lewis is best known for his meticulous research on far reaching subjects with book like Flash Boys, Moneyball, The Premonition and Going Infinite. He is the creator and host of the podcast Against the Rules and has been a contributing editor to Vanity Fair since 2009.
