Ruha Benjamin is an Associate Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University, where she studies the social dimensions of science, technology, and medicine. She is the founder of the Just DATA Lab and the author of People’s Science and Race After Technology, and editor of Captivating Technology. Benjamin writes, teaches, and speaks widely about the relationship between knowledge and power, race and citizenship, health and justice.
Meredith Whittaker is a Distinguished Research Scientist at New York University, Co-founder and Co-director of the AI Now Institute, dedicated to researching the social implications of artificial intelligence and related technologies, and the founder of Google’s Open Research group. Whittaker has advised the White House, the FCC, the City of New York, the European Parliament, and many other governments and civil society organizations on artificial intelligence, internet policy, measurement, privacy, and security.
