Dear Friends and Patrons of City Arts & Lectures,
We did it. With your help, we completed all of the work necessary to make the Nourse Theater a wonderful new home for City Arts & Lectures. Thanks to invaluable advice and a very generous gift of state-of-the-art speakers from Meyer Sound Laboratories, the acoustics are excellent. And the greater number of seats has been a surprising boon to us, as well. We have sold out the 1600-seat hall on several occasions. If you have not visited yet, we hope you will soon. And if you have, you may be pleased to know that bathrooms have been upgraded.
Our annual call for memberships comes with sincere thanks. Contributions not only support the work of presenting over fifty events per year, but also enable us to keep ticket prices low, host high school students and teachers for free, and broadcast our programs on more than 130 public radio stations. Again this past year, the $40,000 we gave to 826 Valencia Scholarships helped six deserving students attend college.
Membership is tax-deductible. Members receive advance notice of all events – in June we announce our fall line-up (a typically sold-out series), so now is an ideal time to join. This past season, contributors secured the best tickets to evenings with Doris Kearns Goodwin, Temple Grandin, Richard Dawkins, Linda Ronstadt, Christopher Guest, Zadie Smith, James Carville & Mary Matalin, and Oscar-winner Darlene Love in conversation and concert. Membership also comes with a 15% discount at all thirteen Books, Inc. locations.
Our current season concludes with programs that span the cultural spectrum– from prison reform advocate and author of Orange Is The New Black, Piper Kerman, to playwright Tony Kushner, to moderate Republican Senator Olympia Snowe, to journalist Michael Pollan. We hope that you will consider supporting unique and worthwhile programming with a tax-deductible contribution.
