Get Involved

Dear Friends and Patrons of City Arts & Lectures,
As we write to you, finishing touches are being put on the Nourse Theatre, City Arts & Lectures’ new home. Craftsmen are assembling acoustical panels and we are testing brand new sound and lighting equipment. Fresh paint coats the upstairs dressing room and the plush upholstered seats in the orchestra look and feel even better than we imagined they would. The historical venue will soon play host to some of the most fascinating figures of our time.
This year, our call for memberships and financial support comes with our sincere thanks for helping us to refurbish the Nourse. Contributions also enable us to broadcast our programs on more than 170 public radio stations, host high school students and teachers for free, and keep ticket prices low. Last year, the $40,000 we gave to 826 Valencia Scholarships helped six deserving students attend college.
Membership is tax-deductible. Members receive advance notice on all events – in June we announce our fall line-up (a typically sold-out series), so now is an ideal time to join. This season, contributors secured tickets to sold-out evenings with David Chang, Sheryl Sandberg, Mark Bittman, David Byrne, Wendell Berry, Cheryl Strayed, Al Gore and a fried chicken dinner with Calvin Trillin. Membership also comes with a 15% discount at all thirteen Books, Inc. locations.
Our very first season at the Nourse features programs that span the cultural spectrum from journalist Michael Lewis to a dance performance by ODC based on Emily Post’s Etiquette, to feminist icon Gloria Steinem, to activist and author Temple Grandin. I personally hope that you will consider supporting unique and worthwhile programming with a tax-deductible contribution.
Sincere thanks,

Sydney Goldstein
Executive Director
