Sally Mann is one of America’s most renowned photographers, best known for her large-scale black and white photographs of her family as well as her more recent epic landscapes. She has received numerous awards, including National Endowment for the Arts, National Endowment for the Humanities, and Guggenheim Foundation grants. Her many books include Immediate Family, What Remains, The Flesh and the Spirit, and Deep South. In her 2009 collection, Proud Flesh, Mann photographed her husband of 39 years and the beautiful and haunting images reveal a profoundly trusting relationship between a man and a woman. A feature film about Mann’s work, What Remains, debuted to critical acclaim in 2006. Sally Mann lives in Lexington, Virginia. Her newest, Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs, is a revealing and beautifully written memoir and family history.
