On Art & Politics 2008
On Art & Politics 2008 includes ten events with cultural observers,
critics, and authors. Race commentator Randall Kennedy, novelist
Bernhard Schlink, theologian Karen Armstrong, and writer Tobias
Wolff, among others, will discuss their work, ideas, and insights.
Linda Carroll and Ann Fessler will converse on the topic of adoption.
Architecture critic Witold Rybczynski looks at America's preference
for single-family homes. These onstage conversations and an evening
with poet Billy Collins offer varied perspectives on contemporary

Benefiting 826 Valencia College Scholarship Program
The 28th Annual Literary Events Series Benefiting the 826 Valencia
College Scholarship Program presents nine Herbst Theater conversations
with celebrated writers from masters of the short story, to visionary
novelists and a beloved poet. A diverse group of novelists, Paul
Auster, Marilynne Robinson, Andre Dubus III, Andrew Sean Greer and
Richard Price bring their latest novels to light and discuss past
work. Junot Díaz, recipient of a 2008 Pulitzer Prize, will address
the immigrant experience in the context of the novel. Short-story
virtuoso George Saunders, humorist John Hodgman, and Pulitzer-Prize
winning poet Mary Oliver round out the series. Go
