Sarah Silverman

In conversation with Paul Lancour. Benefit for 826 Valencia

Monday, April 26, 2010  |  Palace of Fine Arts, 8pm

Comedian, musician, writer, and author Sarah Silverman is known for taking on social taboos with a sharp tongue and quick wit. As the producer and star of The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central, Silverman plays a fictionalized version of herself. Playing an unemployed, self-absorbed woman with undefined goals, her character routinely offends her friends by mocking social classes and groups and being unapologetically politically incorrect. Silverman began her career doing stand-up comedy at the age of 17. In the early 1990’s she gained recognition as a writer and featured player on Saturday Night Live. In 2005, Silverman’s stand-up act was released as a feature film, Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic. Her other film credits include, Bulworth, There’s Something About Mary, The School of Rock, The Aristocrats, and Rent. During the 2008 Presidential election, Silverman released a short Internet video called The Great Schlep, which urged young Jews to make the trip to Florida to convince their grandparents to vote for Barak Obama. The video was watched by millions. Sarah Silverman’s forthcoming book The Bedwetter: Stories of Courage, Redemption, and Pee is a collection of autobiographical essays both hilarious and heartfelt.

Paul Lancour has worked in broadcasting in the Bay Area for over two decades, primarily at 88.5 KQED-FM. He is also a long-time member of Crowded Fire Theater Company, and has been both an actor and sound designer with many other local theater groups. Lancour’s interviews for City Arts & Lectures include Lewis Black, Craig Ferguson and Junot DÌaz.
