An Evening with Amy Sedaris

Tuesday, February 12, 2008  |  Herbst Theatre, 8pm

Amy Sedaris is a comic actress, playwright, and author. She also runs the small-scale but famous cupcake and cheeseball business "Dusty Food Cupcakes" from the kitchen of her New York City apartment. In the early 1990's, Sedaris moved to Chicago and joined the legendary comedy troupes Second City and Annoyance Theatre. She created a repertoire of wide-ranging characters that she honed and expanded over the next decade. Sedaris's best-known character is Jerri Blank, a middle-aged former prostitute turned high school student, featured on the cult series "Strangers With Candy." In 2006, a film of the same name was released, written with Sedaris' long-time collaborators Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert. I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence, Amy Sedaris' most recent book, offers tips on everything from freezing meatballs to taking care of the inebriated. It won the 2007 Quill Award for Best Humor Book. She has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including "Sex and the City," "My Name Is Earl," and "Rescue Me," and is currently working on a series for HBO. Combining her unique sense of humor and style, Sedaris also writes a monthly advice column in the publication The Believer.
