Sherwin Nuland

In conversation with Isabel Duffy

Monday, April 30, 2007  |  Herbst Theatre, 8pm

In How We Die: Reflections on Life's Final Chapter, Dr. Sherwin Nuland sought to present both the biological and clinical reality of death. A surgeon who has taught for many years at Yale Medical School, Nuland stripped death of its mythology and demonstrated how dying is the natural culmination of life. Provocative and humane, How We Die received the National Book Award in 1994. In How We Live, Nuland focused on the resiliency and biological functions of human life. Nuland is also an accomplished medical historian and author of Maimonides, Leonardo Da Vinci, and the memoir Lost in America: A Journey with My Father. In addition to his numerous articles for medical publication, Nuland has written for The New Yorker, The New Republic, The New York Times, Time, and the New York Review of Books.
