Garrison Keillor
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 |
Herbst Theatre, 8pm
Garrison Keillor continues to expand his unique role in American
radio, literature, and culture. His weekly broadcasts of "A Prairie
Home Companion" have reinvigorated radio. Recorded live at the Fitzgerald
Theater in St Paul, Minnesota for more than thirty years, "A Prairie
Home Companion" is appreciated by over four million listeners and
locally on KQED 88.5 FM. "The News from Lake Wobegon," based on
Keillor's own hometown of Anoka, Minnesota, richly reports life
in a quintessential but fictional town "where all the women are
strong, all the men are good looking, and all the children are above
average." The stories of Lake Wobegon have been expanded into sixteen
books, including Lake Wobegon Days, Love Me, and Homegrown
Democrat and, most recently, Liberty, which examines
how patriotism and politics affect this beloved community. Additionally,
Keillor, an avid poetry advocate, has published his first volume
of his own work entitled Love Sonnets.
