Hendrick Hertzberg
In conversation with Rachael Myrow
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 |
Herbst Theatre, 8pm
Hendrik Hertzberg has twice been editor of The New Republic
and is currently the principal political commentator for The
New Yorker. He frequently writes the opening comment in the
"Talk of the Town" for the magazine. He has written two books: Politics:
Observations and Arguments, and the forthcoming ¡OBÁMANOS!:
The Rise of a New Political Era. ¡OBÁMANOS! draws
from two sources-Hertzberg's "Talk" commentary, and an
informal blog on The New Yorker's website he started keeping
fifteen months before the 2008 election. The book begins before
the meteoric rise of Barack Obama, in George W. Bush's second term,
then moving to the primary campaign and onward, following the central
players in the election as they emerge. Hertzberg shows how the
most exciting, intense, and historical campaign in memory has come
to define the current political climate. With Hertzberg's characteristic
sharp observation, historical perspective, analytic power, humor
and insight, ¡OBÁMANOS! explores and explains
our contemporary political moment.
Rachael Myrow is reporter and the morning host for KQED's
California Report, a statewide news program that provides
daily coverage of the most important news and trends affecting California.
