Roz Chast
In conversation with Daniel Handler
Wednesday, November 28, 2007 |
Herbst Theatre, 8pm
Roz Chast's sardonic pen-and-ink drawings have run in The New
Yorker since 1978, when, at the age of 23, she became the youngest
of the magazine's few regular cartoonists. Chast finds humor in
the idiosyncrasies of daily life, often using visual puns and wordplay.
Her instantly recognizable drawings are full of minute details,
average-looking people, and titles instead of captions, like "Non-Caloric
Episode," "Rudeness Galore," and "The Berlitz Guide to Parent-Teacher
Conferences." Over 600 Chast cartoons have been published in The
New Yorker and her editorial illustrations have also appeared
in Ms., Opera News, Fortune, Vogue, GQ, and numerous other
publications. She frequently illustrates books, most recently collaborating
with Steve Martin on The Alphabet from A to Y With Bonus Letter
Z! Theories of Everything: Selected, Collected, Health-Inspected
Cartoons, 1978-2006 is the long-awaited complete works of Roz
Chast.
