Roy Blount Jr.
In conversation with Paul Lancour
Tuesday, November 11, 2008 |
Herbst Theatre, 8pm
Roy Blount Jr. is best known to America for as the frequently irreverent,
unerringly incisive and always hilarious guest panelist for NPR's
news quiz show "Wait, Wait. . .Don't Tell Me." He is the author
of over twenty books on a wide range of subjects and a self-proclaimed
"indiscriminate contributor" to magazines from The Atlantic Monthly,
Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Organic Gardening, to
name just a few. When not indiscriminately contributing, he has
written plays, songs, screenplays and a hit one-man show entitled
Roy Blount's Happy Hour and a Half. In his recent collection
of stories, Long Time Leaving: Dispatches from Up South,
Roy Blount Jr utilizes his signature dry wit to examine the culture
divide in the United States, and his own warring loyalties. His
newest book, Alphabet Juice: The Energies, Gists, and Spirits
of Letters, Words, and Combinations Thereof; Their Roots, Bones,
Innards, Piths, Pips draws on sources as venerable as
the OED and as fresh as Urbandictionary.com and derives an organic
take on language that is unlike, and more fun than, any other.
