Theatre, 8pm
Born in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1937, Madeleine Albright and
her family fled first from the Nazis and then from the Communists,
eventually immigrating to the United States in 1948. Once in the
United States, Dr. Albright earned a B.A. with Honors from Wellesley
College, and Masters and Doctorate degrees from Columbia Universitys
Department of Public Law and Government, as well as a Certificate
from its Russian Institute. During President Clinton's first term,
Albright served as the United States Permanent Representative to
the United Nations and was a member of of the President's Cabinet.
In 1997, she was named the first woman Secretary of State and became,
at that time, the highest ranking woman in the history of the U.S.
government. As Secretary of State, Dr. Albright reinforced Americas
alliances, advocated democracy and human rights, and promoted American
trade and business, labor, and environmental standards abroad. Dr.
Albright serves as a Distinguished Professor of Diplomacy at Georgetown
University.
