As a staff writer for The New Yorker, Diane
Ackerman has pursued penguin in the Antarctic, listened to the haunting
songs of the humpback whales in Hawaii, and scaled cliffs in Japan
to view the world's rarest albatross. Lush imagery cushions each
of her informative forays into the natural world as she is not only
a reporter, but also a poet. She has won a Guggenheim Fellowship,
the John Burroughs Nature Award and was named a "Literary Lion"
by the New York Public Library. In addition to being a prolific
author, Diane Ackerman hosted a five-hour PBS television mini-series
inspire by her bestseller, A Natural History of the Senses.
Her most recent book, The Zookeeper's Wife is the powerful
true story of how the keeper's of the Warsaw Zoo and won the Orion
Book Award this year.
