Jill Abramson & Jane Mayer

On Print Journalism with Roy Eisenhardt

Tuesday, October 13 , 2009  |  Herbst Theatre, 8pm

Jill Abramson and Jane Mayer are renowned journalists who have written extensively on national politics for the country's premier media outlets. Abramson and Mayer first met at the Wall Street Journal, where Abramson was a senior reporter in the Washington bureau and Mayer served as the paper's first female White House correspondent. During the 1990s the duo co-authored Strange Justice: The Selling of Clarence Thomas, about the confirmation hearings of Justice Clarence Thomas. Mayer joined the staff of The New Yorker in 1995, where she has written recently about Dick Cheney, the bin Laden family, Sarah Palin, and the controversial policy of extraordinary rendition. In 2008, she published The Dark Side, an investigative work on the War on Terror. Abramson went on to a position as Washington bureau chief for the New York Times, where she is currently managing editor. The two seasoned journalists and editors will discuss the current state of print journalism, the impact and implications of the shift toward a more digital world, and the future of print media.

Veteran interviewer Roy Eisenhardt practiced law for twelve years in San Francisco and taught at UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law. He was President of the Oakland Athletics and served as the Executive Director for the California Academy of Sciences.
