Dear
Friends and Patrons of City Arts & Lectures
We are now booking our thirtieth consecutive season
of live programs in San Francisco and public radio broadcasts around
the country. This is our once-a-year request to you – our audience
– for support beyond the cost of tickets.
Since 1980, City Arts & Lectures has offered programs
covering a great range of cultural perspectives. We host compelling
figures whose work in literature, criticism, science, and the arts
have inspired and challenged us. We present events in an elegant
theater and manage to keep ticket prices low. We can afford to do
this because of contributions.
City Arts & Lectures is gratified to have earned 74%
of our budget last season. Contributions from individuals and foundations,
along with support from San Francisco’s Hotel Tax Fund, make our
work possible. Contributions cover the entire cost of year-round
radio broadcasts hosted by Linda Hunt on KQED-FM and more than 160 public radio stations
nationwide (visit our www.cityarts.net/radio
for affiliates). Contributed income has made it possible for us
to digitize 29 years of programming to be archived and available
at the Bancroft Library, UC Berkeley. Contributions also enable
us to support and highlight the work of other nonprofit, community-based
projects. With your help, we raise funds for the 826 Valencia College
Scholarships and host student guests and teachers at all events.
Most of all, contributions help City Arts & Lectures maintain excellence
in presenting more than fifty events each season, drawn from all
corners of our cultural landscape. Contributed income is critical
to so many aspects of adventuresome programming and accessibility
to so many.
Membership as a Friend of City Arts & Lectures offers
several benefits:
- Advance notice: Members were able to obtain the best seats
to this season’s most popular programs, including NIck Hornby, Patti Smith, Craig Ferguson, David Byrne, Wendell Berry, desmond Tutu and Margaret Atwood among others.
- 15% Discount at all twelve Books Inc. locations
- Reception at Absinthe Brasserie & Bar with a featured
guest
- Backstage sound check and Hayes Street Grill pre-performance
dinner for two with a guest of your choice
- Invitation to the Annual Emma Jones’s Fried Chicken Dinner

support of City Arts & Lectures,

Sydney Goldstein
