Dear
Friends and Patrons of City Arts & Lectures,
We are about to begin our twenty-seventh year of presenting
live programs in San Francisco and public-radio broadcasts around
the country. This is our once-a-year request to you - our audience
- for support beyond the cost of tickets.
Since 1980, City Arts & Lectures has presented programs
covering a wide range of cultural perspectives. We host compelling
figures whose work in literature, criticism, science, and the arts
inspires us. We present events in an elegant theater setting, and
we keep ticket prices low, making our programs accessible to the
broadest possible audience. We can afford to do this because of
contributions from patrons like you.
Contributions from individuals and foundations, along
with support from San Francisco's Hotel Tax Fund, make our work
possible. Contributions cover costs of our year-round radio broadcasts
on KQED-FM and more than 170 public radio stations nationwide (visit
the Public Radio Affiliates
page for a list of affiliates). And contributions enable us to further
the work of other non-profit, community-based organizations. With
your help, we are able to raise funds for 826 Valencia's College
Scholarship Program and to host student guests and their teachers
at all events. Most of all, contributions help City Arts & Lectures
maintain excellence in presenting over fifty events each season,
drawn from all corners of our diverse cultural landscape. Contributed
income is critical to adventuresome programming.
Membership as a Friend of City Arts & Lectures offers
several benefits:
- Advance notice: Members were able to obtain tickets to
this season's most quickly sold-out events
- Discounts at Books Inc.
- Invitation to a special reception honoring one of our
guests
- Acknowledgement in printed programs
- Reception at Absinthe Brasserie & Bar with a featured
guest
- Backstage sound-check and pre-performance dinner at the
Hayes Street Grill
- Invitation to the Annual Emma Jones’s Fried Chicken Dinner
